New Faculty/Staff
We are thrilled to welcome Sr. Miriam Elizabeth, OSFS to our HCA faculty this year. Sister was born in Dublin, Ireland and has many years teaching experience both in England and in the United States. Sister holds both a BA and MA in education and an MA in Religious Studies. Sister taught at our St. Francis de Sales School in Tring, England and served as the school principal there. Thirteen years ago, she came to this country where she has served at St. Bernadette School in Drexel Hill, PA. At St. Bernadette, Sister was the school librarian and taught both Religion and Spanish. Sister will serve our HCA community as our Director of Aviat Care and elementary Spanish teacher.
Throughout her years as a teacher, Sr. Miriam Elizabeth has been guided by the principle that each child in her care is a gift from God. That firm conviction, along with her fine Irish sense of humor, makes here a wonderful addition to our HCA faculty.
Hello, my name is Amy Strickland. I am so thrilled to be teaching third grade this year. I graduated from James Madison University with a bachelor's degree in English and I have a Virginia Catholic Educator Certification. I plan to continuing my education throughout my teaching career. I've taught preschool for the last five years at St. Mary Preschool, a position I loved! My husband, Bruce, and I have three children who bring us joy everyday. Emily is a proud alumnus of Holy Cross; she now attends Colonial Forge High School. Caroline and James happily attend Holy Cross. Caroline is in 6th grade and James is in 5th grade. I'm blessed to work where I can be close to my children and be a part of a God centered environment.
I believe in putting God first in my life, others second, and myself third. It's called the I'm Third philosophy. I'll use the I'm Third philosophy in our classroom to promote an atmosphere of respect, trust, cooperation, kindness, teamwork, and responsibility. I'm excited to bring new ideas to third grade this year and to work closely with Mrs. McNamara. I love to read and write; I hope to bring that love to the children through literature circles, poetry, and lots of fun writing activities. I'll be teaching social studies to all third graders and I'm really looking forward to going on a virtual road trip through the regions of the United States. I value communication and a partnership with parents to give the children all the tools for success in school and life. With Christ's example, the support of my peers, the children's enthusiasm, and the parent's involvement, we are bound to have a wonderful year!
