Our Philosophy
Holy Cross Academy is a Catholic elementary school of the Diocese of Arlington, which serves the educational needs of children of varying intellectual abilities from preschool through the eighth grade. It is under the direction of the Oblate Sisters of Saint Francis de Sales and is staffed by a faculty of religious and lay teachers who “create for the school community an atmosphere enlivened by the Gospel spirit of freedom and charity” in which each child grows and learns in a climate of mutual respect and charity, gentleness and integrity, according to the spirit of St. Francis de Sales.
Our Mission
At
Holy Cross Academy, we are guided by the spirit of Saint Francis de Sales
as we dedicate ourselves to:
- Create an atmosphere
of prayer and reliance on our heavenly Father;
- Spread the message
of Jesus in our families and our community by treating all persons with
respect and showing reverence for the gift of God in each one;
- Build up our Spirit-
filled faith community within Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception
Parish;
- Serve the needy
in our local community and in the Missions through an awareness of our
global responsibility to all humanity;
- Develop the whole
child: spiritually, emotionally, academically and physically;
- Promote academic
excellence by challenging all our students to recognize their gifts
and fulfill their God-given potential.

Parental and Community Involvement
Parents and families at Holy Cross Academy participate in the life of the school on a daily basis. Our parents are an important part of our school and donate their time and talent to make our school the wonderful family community that it is. Saint Mary parishioners help our students in the library and our tutoring program. Our school parents and parishioners allow us to offer many programs to our students.
Accreditation
Our school opened in 1998 under the guidance of the Diocese of Arlington Office of Catholic Schools. After an intensive self-study, we were fully accredited by the Virginia Catholic Education Association which provides accreditation for Catholic Schools in the state of Virginia under the direction of the Virginia State Board of Education. Our yearly reaccreditation is a guarantee that we are maintaining or, in many circumstances, exceeding the standards set by the state and the Virginia Catholic Education Association.
